Sleeping on the ground and living with the barest essentials are not new to people who have been camping all their lives, practically since the time they were still in diapers. However, not all people are used to this kind of life. People who seldom go camping may pack everything they feel that they need and end up taking the whole house with them. Now that totally destroys the whole idea of roughing it. On the other hand, camping does not mean that one has to fore go everything and live like a hermit. You do not have to surrender everything to nature. You have got to bring some essential things that let you maximize what nature has got to offer. The following are some of the must-have when you go camping. Tent or caravan - You need to have some form of shelter. Though it might be nice be nice to sleep under a blanket of stars, but what if rain clouds come rolling in and rain starts to pour down? It is not easy to go running amok the darkness to see if caves are available. If there`s just the two of you then a two person tent is good enough to fit you both. Just make sure that you have a good quality tent that will not allow rain water to seep through the material. However, if you want a more spacious area that accommodates you like a home, then having caravanning might be an even better idea. Lights Flashlights are a definite must-have. You wouldnt be able to survive your first night out in the woods without having one. You never know if there are snakes all over the place and might even step on one unknowingly. Toilets - Not having an actual commode is the reason why most people opt not to go on camping. People do not like the idea of taking a dump or pissing behind the bushes when out in the wilderness. That may have been true some 20 years ago. Today, caravans have a built in toilet system that not so different from the ones we have at home. As for tenting, there are portable commodes available in the, market as well. Chamber pots are already a thing of the past. Beds and bedding - Seasoned hikers and campers are used to sleeping in just sleeping bags. Sleeping bags are indispensable equipment when going camping. However, you can also bring additional bedding and blankets if you are not used to sleeping bare. Water - Back in civilization, we are all used to drinking purified water. While some parks have communal sources of water, some do not. It is definitely not recommended to drink water from a stream or pond. Those water sources could be contaminated by harmful microorganisms that could make you sick. Food, gas and cooking utensils not all of us are born to be candidates for the reality shoe Survivor . Hence, most of us will definitely get sick at the idea of eating insects and rodents. We need actual food and we need to cook it in ways that we know. When camping, you can bring portable gas stoves for cooking just in case we really do not know how to maintain a fire that is enough to cook food. Some caravans have a mini-kitchen so this hardly becomes a problem. Remember to pack light when going camping. You are not going to a fashion show. Bring only the clothes that are comfortable and suitable to the occasion. Don`t over do with the preparations. Camping is easy, before you know it, you are already a pro to this.
